You can exchange links with another website. Therefore you get in touch with the webmaster and offer him a link. You get a backlink pointing from his website to your site if he agrees. Because both websites link to each other there are Two Way Links or reciprocal links. Keep in mind to ask for a link from related sites, they are more important to Google. Two Way Links don’t increase your ranking significantly in Google, of course they are better than no links. What Google likes are One Way Links. This is a link from another website to your website and there is no link from your site to the other website. Web directories give you such links. But they are not very important for search engines. One Way Links would be of course again the best of a competing website because they are very related. But nobody wishes to link to your site and get nothing in return.
You can proceed quite different if you have 2 partners, B and C. You (A) link to B and B doesn’t link back to you (that would be reciprocal) he links to C. C then links to A.
