Dining Room Chair Cushions
Written by Author on March 23rd, 2009Chair cushions add needed softness to hard wooden kitchen and dining room chairs, but choosing cushions for kitchen chairs that don’t overpower the kitchen set isn’t easy. Although you can purchase a set of chair cushions for $5 at the local dollar store, they may not match your room’s decor or complement your style. Chair cushions that are cheaper have less durable fabric, thin padding and poor workmanship.
Anyone who cares enough to select fine quality, well constructed chair cushions for the dining room or kitchen environment will surely earn a set of furniture which endures, gives more pleasure and comfort, and will need far less maintenance with passing time. In the selection of the chair cushion for wooden chair, make these things into account. Select the appropriate size of the seats – if the mattress is too tiny, it will be uncomfortable. If it’s too large, it will look bulky – and the edges of the chair seat will add to the wear on the fabric and cut the life of your cushions.
Check closely to be sure that any ties are sewn securely into the seam of the cushion. When people sit and stand, chair ties take a lot of pulling and tugging. Ties have a much better chance of staying attached if they are sewn into the seam.
Buy country chair cushions treated with stain guard to make it easy to keep them clean. Investing in a can of stain resist or stain guard make it easier to keep them looking fresh and new should you find the perfect cushions aren’t stain resistant. This is your family kitchen and the kids will eat there too. Select seat cushions that may be washed or that come with removable and washable covers. Some spills are bound to soak in, even if you use stain guard. The ability to wash your chair cushions in the washer will simplify your life. Pick cushions in a durable fabric that will stand up to the wear of lots of seats on the seat.
Corduroy, denim, chintz, canvas and duck are all good choices for fabric that wears like iron. Check rolled edges, piping and ruffles closely to be sure they are all straight and firmly sewn into the seam between the top and the bottom of the cushion. Examine the full length of the seam for any gaps or breaks and pull gently on ruffles or piping to be sure they are fully attached. Cushions that are tufted look attractive, however, they aren’t that comfortable for sitting on for a long time. Make sure, when choosing tufted cushions, make sure the buttons are sewn through all the layers of the chair cushion to avoid losing buttons to wriggling bottoms.
