How to Find a Good Driving School

Written by Author on February 20th, 2009

Reaching the ag of 17 in the UK entitles you to start driving. The cost of driving lessons are not cheap (but absolutely necessary), so you will want to ensure this money is wisely spent. Firstly, you will need to identify some local driving schools and ask suitable questions of them.

There are lots of directories on the internet specialising in listing driver training schools of all types. I located one that listed thousands of local driving schools throughout the UK so you will surely find some driving instructors that may or may not be suitable for you.

When you contact the driving instructors, you will want to be certain that they are fully qualified and not still training to be a driving instructor. You can tell this by the type of licence they hold which, must be displayed in the window of their training vehicle. A fully qualified driving instructor will have a green octagonal licence whereas a trainee will have a pink triangular licence.

Many driving instructors will offer you a discount on the price of your driving lessons by paying for more than one in advance. Some will also offer discounts based on your profession e.g. nurses, students etc. Be sure that you enquire about any possible discounts.

You do need to realise though that cheapest lessons are not always the best driving lessons and you could well end up taking far more driving lessons than you actually need thereby being more expensive overall. So, once you start your driver training, if for whatever reason you are not happy with your instructor, do not be afraid to try out another local driving school.

Some of these reasons could be a personality clash, shouting, turning up late, using the lesson time to stop off at shops/do errands, stopping to use their mobile (illegal whilst driving), a dirty (smelly!) car etc.

Let us not forget that you are the customer and spending your hard earned money and should therefore receive and expect a top level of courtesy, service and training.
