It all started when the government decided it needed to draw more international vacation activity to a nice beachfront town on the Caribbean. The plan was to create the resort and then offer great travel deals to potential visitors.
It has been less than 40 years and the hotel development has been amazing along a waterfront strip known as the Hotel Zone. The town is now a major city with an urban downtown, major shopping areas and world-class dining. The competitive market in this slow economy is motivating the resort operators to offer some very attractive Cancun travel deals.
Do be aware that the Yucatan Peninsula can be rather humid, with high heat in the summertime. It might be worthwhile to consider a trip when it is cooler in the Spring or Autumn months.
