As a networker as well as in my previous work as a Cab driver, I’ve been in a unique position to observe people up close and personal. I have and do see on a daily basis the welfare state we live in going full force. And I have to admit it makes me sad and happy at the same time. There was a time in my life that that I saw things the same way that the majority of people still do. I lived according to my own narrow little set of rules as I understood them and it limited me and it prevented me from accomplishing everything I was capable of. Then one day I got hurt at the job I was working at the time, before cab driving, and I was stuck at home most of the time bored out of my mind. And I started looking around online for something to do. And I happened across a networking program, and I’ve never looked back. It changed my perception for ever, and for the better.

It’s an unfortunate fact that most people simply expect something for nothing. It’s not entirely their fault though. As a society we have been taught that if things get bad, don’t worry, the government will take care of us. Unfortunately that is as far from the truth as you can get. The governments social programs, as well intentioned as they may be, are simply inadequate. And alot of the time the government only cares about it’s own well being and not ours. It is up to us to take care of ourselves, and to make sure that we are able to continue to do so into the future.

When it comes to networking, I could show someone a check and an idiot proof way for them to get their own check, and still, 97% of the people will say “Oh that stuff doesn’t work”, even after they have seen proof to the contrary.

Some of the excuses I have heard from people just make me shake my head and walk away. “I know a guy who says he knows a guy who tried that once, and it didn’t work”, is another good one.

Here’s a simple piece of advice for the 97% who love to make excuses. Stop listening to people who don’t know what they are talking about. Then get off your butt and force things to change. Otherwise nothing will change. For the 3% of you that are leaders and go getter’s. Welcome to the winners circle.
